Rabbit cages and rabbit hutches are must-haves for any bunny-loving household. Even if Bugs is litter-trained and the darling of the family, he still needs a place to live, relax, and feel safe. Our rabbit cage buying guide will help you find the perfect indoor or outdoor rabbit hutch for your rabbit.

Size matters

Rabbits instinctively love to stand up tall, ears alert, and to stretch out long, happy and relaxed. If your rabbit cage isn't big enough for these natural behaviors, you'll have one unhappy bunny. Get the biggest hutch you can. A basic rule: 24 x 36 inches for smaller rabbits, 30 x 36 inches for bigger ones. Or just figure four times as big as your rabbit.

Some cages come with a second level, or more. Rabbits love to climb and to be above the action, so consider a multi-level rabbit cage if you have the room.

Modern rabbit hutches can be made of metal, plastic, or wood, depending on size and exposure to the elements. Keep clean-up in mind: stainless steel and plastic are easier to wash than wood.

We recommend rabbit hutches with smooth floors. They're much easier to clean, and wire floors can be uncomfortable for your rabbit, snagging fur and scratching tender skin.
